Japanese ship makes historic appearance in SF

SAN FRANCISCO

The tall-masted Kaiwo Maru sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge just after 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Japanese tall ship is in port to mark the 150th anniversary of the first official Japanese ship to land in an American port.

It was March of 1860 when the Kanrin Maru arrived in San Francisco with 96 sailors marking the beginning of international relations between the two countries.
