Dog living along Highway 1 finally captured

SANTA CRUZ, CA

The Australian cattle mix was first spotted in January sleeping along Highway 1. Authorities were worried he would get hit so they tried to capture him.

But it wasn't easy.

Dozens of attempts failed. They fed him tranquilizers and even closed the freeway 10 times. But he still got away.

Finally, on the 80th try in late March, the dog they named Highway Man was finally captured.

Highway Man is now in doggy foster care, and should be ready to adopt in August.
