Angry crowds protested the Johannes Mehserle verdict in Oakland Thursday night, but across the Bay in San Francisco the streets were calm, a police spokesman said.

"Actually, we haven't had any incidents after the verdict in San Francisco," Officer Samson Chan said.

He said he is not aware of any gatherings at all related to the fatal shooting of Oscar Grant last year.

Chan said police will keep an eye on the situation over the next few days.

"We're pretty much monitoring the whole city, and we will adjust the hours of our officers if needed," Chan said.
