Vallejo to cut police patrols

Starting Saturday, Vallejo will cut the number of police cars it has on patrol by half -- a direct result of the city's crushing budget deficit.

Two officers, instead of one, will be assigned to each car to make up for the lack of backup.

The decision comes a week after the department announced it is also suspending its canine and SWAT programs for 90 days.
