Hearing on redevelopment of SF shipping containers

The San Francisco redevelopment agency is holding a city hall hearing Monday to talk about a unique idea to use shipping containers in the Hayes Valley neighborhood to serve as a facility for dining or the arts.

The San Francisco Examiner reports that a vacant lot on Octavia Street between Hayes and Linden Streets is being considered.

It's one of several lots left vacant after a portion of the central freeway was demolished a decade ago.

Eight by 20 foot shipping containers would be ventilated, connected to electric and water hookups and used as eateries and art galleries.

A nearby German-themed restaurant plans to operate a beer garden at the site.
