Ban lifted on new eateries in the Castro

SAN FRANCISCO

The board of supervisors has lifted a long-time ban on new eateries moving in. The Castro was one of few neighborhoods that barred new restaurants, unless they were replacing an old one.

Supervisor Bevan Dufty's plan approved Monday night comes with many restrictions, and gives neighbors a big say before any openings.

Residents hope it'll allow the popular Ike's sandwich shop, which was evicted, to relocate within the area.
