Splints preferred over casts for children

According to a new study, splints are just as effective as casts in treating wrist fractures in young patients.

They were also more comfortable, easier to clean, and cause less anxiety. Half the 92 children studied wore a splint, the other half casts.

By a 68 percent margin, parents and children were more satisfied with the splint.

The research is available in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
