SFPD seek policy change with shoplifters

San Francisco police are looking into a way to crack down on shoplifting - a crime they say often goes un-punished.

The Market Street Safeway and the Westfield San Francisco Center are two hot spots.

If store security catches thieves, police often don't even pick them up, because they know they won't be prosecuted.

Now police are looking into a policy change that would allow them to cite shoplifters and put them in jail overnight, hoping to deter future thefts.
