Homebuilders entice buyers with new perks

We had one of the worst years ever for new home sales, but at least the year ended on a positive note.

Sales climbed 17.5 percent in December to the highest level in eight months.

New homes sold at an annual rate of 329,000 units. That's the most since April, but still down nearly 8 percent from 2009.

Industry analysts say some homebuilders are clearing inventory by enticing buyers with perks, like installing all-granite countertops and bathrooms, which has led to more sales.
