State water officials are conducting the second snow survey of the season near Lake Tahoe Friday.

The Sierra snowpack gets officially measured for water content five times each season along Highway 50, near Echo Summit.

The spring runoff provides about one-third of the water for California's homes and farming industry.

At this point, state sensors indicate the water content is about 79 percent of the seasonal average. Last year at this time it was 55 percent of average.
