Safeway to open six new Bay Area stores

PLEASANTON, Calif.

The grocery chain is opening six new Bay Area stores, as part of an aggressive expansion. The stores will be in Pleasanton, Castro Valley, El Cerrito, Campbell, Los Gatos and Burlingame.

The Pleasanton-based chain is also trying to get city approvals for stores in Pleasant Hill, Emeryville, Berkeley and new ones in Oakland. Safeway says each store will create about two hundred jobs.
