San Rafael Fire Department paramedics responded at about noon and pronounced the inmate deceased, Lt. Barry Heying said.
The inmate's name has not been released.
Novato police are investigating the death, Heying said.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal investigation and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is conducting a coroner's investigation, Heying said.
