Bill introduced to help women on maternity leave

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

State law guarantees women up to four months of unpaid pregnancy-related disability leave, if their doctor says it's necessary. But State Sen. Noreen Evans says the law concerning employer-funded health care during this leave is unclear and has gaps. She says many women decide to return to work early, rather than lose their coverage.

Her bill closes this gap, so that women have adequate time to bond with their newborns.
