Both commercial and recreational salmon fishing have been closed or drastically reduced in the past three years because of a steep decline in the fall Chinook population.
On Thursday, the U.S. Small Business Administration declared last year's salmon season a disaster, and that allows local businesses that suffered financial losses to get low interest loans that can be used to help pay off debts.
