The state assembly is stepping up security at state capitol by ordering sergeants-at-arms to carry guns on the job.

There are 17 sergeants-at arms at the capitol. Their job is to protect legislators and monitor legislative sessions but until now, they have rarely carried weapons except when threat levels are high.

The head of the security division said the move was not a response to any threat, but a way to enhance safety at the capitol.
