Assembly Speaker John Perez had claimed in numerous biographies, reports, and news articles that he graduated from UC Berkeley in 1991.
On Thursday, he admitted dropping out before earning a degree, but at least one political foe says it's no big deal.
"Look, he's the speaker of the House, that's a huge accomplishment. If he didn't graduate college, that's a personal issue. I don't think we should be attacking him on that," said Assm. Tim Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks.
Perez refused to go on camera to talk about the controversy saying only off camera that he's been up front about his school history. Perez's biography on his assembly website now says he attended UC Berkeley.
