Kids who fell from window out of hospital

PETALUMA, Calif.

The 2-year-old girl and her 3-year-old brother had climbed onto a dresser in a playroom on the second floor of their home at 1116 Baywood Drive, Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons said.

Both children fell out the window when they leaned against the window screen around 6:30 p.m., Lyons said. Their fall was broken by a bush in a bark-covered planter area outside the home, Lyons said.

The family was downstairs inside the home and did not see the children fall, but were alerted when they heard crying outside the front door, acting Petaluma fire Capt. Dan Farren said.

Both children suffered minor injuries. The girl was taken to Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland and the boy went to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, police said. Both were released before 1 a.m. today, Lyons said.

Lyons said the screen was securely in the window before they children fell, and police do not plan to pursue charges against the parents or guardians.
