Richmond firefighters were at Martin Luther King Elementary School where a fire broke out about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The fire charred furniture inside the building on the older part of the campus. The school district says the building was scheduled to be demolished this summer. The school year ended last week.

Investigators say the fire is being investigated as arson.

A special school board meeting will be held Tuesday night in Richmond.
