DA charges second suspect in Rodeo homicide

RODEO, Calif.

Mikaele Lui Taito, 34, has been charged with murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle. Both of the charges include gun enhancements, Peck said.

Taito's co-defendant, 19-year-old Rodeo resident Anthony Wiley, is facing identical charges, Peck said.

Peck alleges that the men both shot the victim, using two different guns.

Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said the shooting happened at about 10:15 p.m. on May 30 in the 1200 block of Tullibee Court.

Deputies found the victim, 22-year-old Rodeo resident James Newman Jr., suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.

Wiley was arrested June 29. He has been arraigned on the charges but has not entered a plea, Peck said.

Taito was arrested Friday and will be arraigned either this afternoon or Wednesday morning, Peck said.

He said he could not comment on a possible motive for the shooting because police are still investigating the case.
