The mural by artist Laura Hoffman will grace the back of the South Park Youth Center facing Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
The youth center has been a chronic target of graffiti vandalism, police Sgt. Michael Lazzarini said.
The Santa Rosa Redevelopment Agency's Gateways Graffiti Project provided funding for the project. Youth from the Community Action Partnership's Drug Intervention Group helped design the mural that depicts the people who helped create South Park.
They include the late Rev. James Coffee, Rev. Ann Gray Byrd, Jesse Love, Alicia Sanchez, O. Platt Williams and Greg Sarris.
