Some Oakland services to be closed Monday

OAKLAND, Calif.

The business closures and the unpaid time off by city employees is part of an agreement by employee labor unions to help balance Oakland's deficit.

No street sweeping will occur Monday -- although public works employees will respond to serious emergencies, such as traffic signal outages or sewer overflows.

All libraries will be closed Monday. In addition, all branch libraries will be closed Saturday. The main library will be open this weekend and all libraries resume normal service hours Tuesday.

Oakland Animal Services will be closed Monday. Any stray animal emergencies should be reported to (510) 777-3333 and a shelter representative will be contacted.

The city's north, downtown, west and east senior centers will be closed Monday.

Head Start locations will be closed although Early Head Start sites will be open, city officials said.

City parks will be open to the public Monday, although no staff will be onsite and bathrooms will be closed. Paid programs and camps will continue as scheduled.

Police, fire, and emergency services will not be affected by the closures.
