A woman who was killed Sunday night when she was hit by a car while running across Interstate Highway 680 near Martinez has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 53-year-old Concord resident Carol Davis.

Davis was struck as she ran across traffic lanes on southbound I-680 south of Pacheco Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The driver, Janko Trifunovic, Jr., 35, of Brentwood, was in a 2005 Honda with 31-year-old Melissa Meeks, of Brentwood, and three children. Trifunovic unable to avoid Davis when she ran in front of his car, according to the CHP.

Davis fell after she was hit by the Honda and was then struck by several other vehicles traveling along the roadway, CHP officials said.

Investigators believe Davis may have been under the influence of alcohol and are continuing to investigate the incident, according to the CHP.
