Officers say a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old were riding skateboards down the street when they went underneath the side of a Recology Vallejo garbage truck and were run over.
The older boy died at the Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo; the second boy has been airlifted to Oakland Children's Hospital with serious injuries.
In a statement released on Friday, Recology Vallejo said they are cooperating with investigators and sent their sympathies to the family.
