Vallejo cop killed after struggle with suspect

VALLEJO, Calif.

The officer was pursuing two suspects after a report of a robbery at a Bank of America branch in Vallejo. The suspects' vehicle, a silver SUV, crashed on Janice Street, a struggle ensued, and the officer was shot.

The officer was transported to an area hospital; the Vallejo Times Herald reports that the officer died from his wounds.

One of the suspects may be in custody but there is a multi-agency search underway for the other suspect, who is believed to have fled on foot. Officers from the Vallejo Police Department, Solano County Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol and others are searching an area north of the Solano County fairgrounds.

A gun was recovered on the 100 block of Janice Street.

The suspects are desribed as black males wearing Halloween masks during the robbery, according to the Vallejo Times Herald.
