Oakland cop taken off street over beanbag incident

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

In a video taken by citizen journalist Scott Campbell, an officer is seen firing a beanbag. Campbell was hit in the leg. Using beanbags in crowd-control situations is allowed under Oakland police policy. But, policy also says the officer can only act under the direction of a supervisor and that the victim shall be taken to the hospital. That did not happen. Internal Affairs is investigating the incident.
