Dan Ashley gives ice skating lesson in Concord

CONCORD, Calif.

The free skate clinic was arranged by the city of Concord and the Salvation Army at the seasonal rink at Todos Santos Plaza. Ashley showed the kids a few basics.

"This is the kind of thing they don't get to do. I mean, not only have we not done this in our community, most of these kids wouldn't get a chance to do this so it's really fun," said Major Clay Gardner from the Salvation Army.

Ashley used to teach figure skating and also compete. He says he doesn't get the chance to skate that much anymore, but said it was a lot of fun to work with the kids.

The rink in Downtown Concord will be open through Jan. 2, 2012.
