A storage shed between two Petaluma homes was completely destroyed after a fire Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

Fire crews were dispatched to 1505 Pheasant Drive at 3:50 p.m. Crews arrived to a storage shed fully engulfed in flames between two houses, officials said.

The fire threatened nearby homes prompting an aggressive fire attack to knockdown the flames, fire officials said.

Once the fire was extinguished, the shed and its contents were completely destroyed. A fence between the residences were also damaged and partially destroyed, officials said.

Nearby houses were not significantly damaged and residents were allowed to return home after a fire investigation, officials said.

The blaze appears to be accidental and a working smoke detector alerted the residents to evacuate, according to fire officials.
