The resident told authorities he saw what looked like a cat the size of a medium-sized dog leap a fence in the 2600 block of Graceland Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies searched yards in the area but saw no sign of a mountain lion.
While it's unclear whether the animal in question was actually a mountain lion, officials are warning residents to stay on the alert for signs of the big cats.
People that encounter a mountain lion are encouraged to stay calm and to not run away from it, as running can trigger the instinct to chase and attack, officials said.
If a mountain lion approaches or behaves aggressively, people are encouraged to throw sticks or rocks, wave a stick and speak loudly.
