Elderly man injured, dog killed in San Jose house fire

SAN JOSE, Calif.

At about 3 a.m., several residents went to a fire station on South King Road to report a fire at a home in the neighborhood, San Jose fire Capt. Rob Brown said.

Firefighters responded to a house in the 2000 block of South King Road and said flames and heavy smoke were pouring out of a window in the front of the house.

An elderly man was found in the rear of the house throwing belongings out a window, Brown said.

The man was evacuated and taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area and was brought under control in about 45 minutes, Brown said.

The remains of a deceased dog were found in another area of the house.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation but appeared to be accidental, Brown said.
