A temporary tribute to honor the lives lost during the Iraq War is stirring emotions in the Pacific Northwest. Members of the Iraq Names Project inscribed 4,498 names of those who died during combat.

They were drawn on sidewalks throughout Portland, Oregon using chalk art. The project stretches 12.5 miles through the city. Dozens of chalk artists turned out to help scrawl the names into the pavement. The display will last as long as the weather permits.
