Caltrans considering replacing bolts on new Bay Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO

The bolts are also known as rods and range in length from 9-17 feet. The San Francisco Chronicle reports the problem is believed to be with the quality of the bolts. They were made in the United States.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission will meet Wednesday to discuss the unexpected problem.

It is unclear how long replacing the bolts would take, but Caltrans says the new bridge is still slated to open Labor Day weekend.
