It happened in Stockton, around 8:30 Thursday night. Investigators say the woman appears to have been mauled to death.
The pit bull was taken away by animal control officials and the owner of the home where the woman was found is being questioned.
Neighbors say the same dog has jumped the fence before and attacked other animals.
