Penguin chicks graduate from fish school at San Francisco Zoo

SAN FRANCISCO

Visitors cheered as five Magellanic penguin chicks graduated from fish school. The aquatic birds then marched to Penguin Island. That's where they joined the zoo's penguin colony, home to many of their parents.

This was the first year that the zoo decided to open its doors for the special viewing to both members and the general public.

During the event, there was a naming contest for one of the male chicks. A drawing at the end revealed the baby penguin's new name as George Alexander Louis.

The zoo has been very successful in breeding penguins since Penguin Island opened back in the 1980's.
