Fiery crash snarled commute on I-80 in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, calif.

The crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. and involved a pickup truck with a trailer that was hauling some type of construction equipment, California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Parker said.

The truck was traveling east when the crash happened just east of Air Base Parkway.

Parker said the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation but that there may have been another vehicle involved, and the truck ended up on top of the center divider, where it caught fire.

Lanes in both directions were closed as crews battled the fire.

The truck's driver was initially reported to be lying on the ground after the crash, but Parker said he was not seriously injured.

As of 8 a.m., the fire was out but the crash had not yet been cleared.

"They're trying to get it off the center divider right now," Parker said.

All lanes were back open by 8:35 a.m.
