San Jose police Violent Crime Reduction Plan was established to focus on reducing violent crimes and provide an increased police presence, police said.
The suppression of gang-related crime is a top priority for officers in San Jose, according to police.
From January through September, police has reported eight gang-related homicides, six fewer than the same timeframe a year ago, or roughly 43 percent fewer homicides.
Over that same timeframe, reported aggravated assaults have dropped 10 percent from last year, 133 this year from 148 in 2012, police said.
Simple assaults dropped 6.5 percent, dropping from 31 in 2012 to 29 this year.
There have been 23 gang-related robberies, 12 fewer - or a 34.3 percent drop - than the 35 reported a year ago, police said. Overall, there have been 193 gang-related crimes through September this year compared to the 228 from 2012, a 15.4 percent decrease, police said.
