Livermore golf pro faces more sex abuse charges

LIVERMORE, Calif.

Andrew Michael Nisbet, 31, who lives in Livermore and worked at the Las Positas Golf Course in that city, was charged last month with 65 felony counts involving two young boys. He now faces an additional 10 counts, most of which involve a third young boy.

Nisbet, who is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, was arraigned on the amended complaint against him -- which is 42 pages long -- in Alameda County Superior Court in Pleasanton today and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 20 to enter a plea.

Livermore police couldn't be immediately reached for comment on the new charges but said in December that their investigation at that point had indicated that the suspected abuse occurred in their city between 2009 and 2012.

They said Nisbet coached children throughout the state as well as nationally and it is suspected that he sexually assaulted at least several male children between the ages of 12 and 17 years in Livermore.

Livermore police spokesman Steve Goard said in December that authorities believe that Nisbet may also have abused boys in other locations where he coached, such as in Michigan, North Carolina, Mississippi and Alabama.

Police said Las Positas Golf Course officials fired Nisbet after learning of his arrest.

Among the charges Nisbet is facing are oral copulation by force; oral copulation of a person under the age of 16; oral copulation of a person under age 18; lewd and lascivious acts with a child 14 or 15 years of age; distribution or exhibition of lewd material to a minor; and arranging a meeting with a minor for the purpose of engaging in lewd and lascivious behavior.

The original charges against Nisbet were filed shortly after the PGA's Northern California Section announced that it had given him its 2013 Junior Golf Leader Award for his work with young golfers.

For the past five years, Nisbet has helped plan and run the U.S. Kids Golf World Championships in Pinehurst, N.C., according to the PGA.
