The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will honor two Recology employees who rescued a 10-week-old puppy from a recycling conveyor belt.

Gem, a poodle puppy, was found last month among the bottles, cans and other recyclables being sorted. Officials believe she was thrown in the trash and left for dead.

Greg Foster is one of the Recology employees who will be honored Thursday night. He saw the pup moving on the conveyer belt and stopped the line immediately.

Gem will be available for adoption from Animal Care and Control once she has fully recovered from the bite marks and other injuries she was found with.
