A local lawmaker plans to donate stem cells to help a 5-year-old suffering from cancer.

San Jose City Councilmember Xavier Campos will undergo the procedure at the Stanford Cancer Center.

Fourteen years ago, Campos joined the National Bone Marrow Registry and was recently told that he matches a child in need.

Campos says he hopes his story encourages more people to become donors.
