The 52 year old corrections department captain accidentally fired a shot from his service revolver inside his Bronx apartment on Wednesday night, officials said.
The bullet went through the wall and into a neighbor's apartment.
The neighborwas not injured.
The officer was initially facing reckless endangerment and related charges, but prosecutors declined to pursue the case.
