HAMILTON, N.J. -- Police in New Jersey are searching for the man caught on surveillance video stealing a car from a gas station, with a baby girl in the back seat.

It happened Sunday afternoon in Hamilton Township.

The car and the child were found within a half hour in Trenton.

Police say the girl's grandmother was inside the gas station when the man jumped into the driver's seat and took off.

Her phone was still in the car, and police were able to trace the signal.

The little girl was not hurt.

The grandmother was preoccupied, a move she deeply regrets. "I don't care how much of a split second you're going to be in a store, take the baby out. I don't care if they want the car, take the baby out of the car," she said.

The grandmother sprints after the car, screaming for help.

"There was no way he didn't see her and hear me screaming at him, 'The baby! My baby is in the car!' All I could think was, 'Please Lord help her!'" she said.
