MENLO PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- Facebook is giving back to its community. The Menlo Park-based social media giant is funding technology upgrades for the city's fire district.

The company is donating $90,000 for new thermal imaging cameras that will replace the current fleet that's about 6-8 years old.

The cameras are equipped with a so-called thermal throttle, which allows firefighters to pinpoint hotspots in hidden spaces, like walls.

That makes it easier for them to attack the source of the fire and avoid unnecessary damage to the structure or unforeseen danger for their crew.
