SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KGO) -- Santa Clara County health officials confirmed the county's first flu-related death of the season. The victim was under the age of 65 and did not receive the flu vaccine, but they also did not have any medical risks that could have been complicated by the flu.

Health officials said the victim did not get this season's flu vaccine.

There are currently seven other severe cases of the flu being treated in Santa Clara County.

Vaccination is recommended for anyone over the age of sixth months, and officials say it is important for individuals in high-risk categories like the elderly, pregnant women and children under five years old.

People with medical conditions like diabetes, obesity, asthma and heart disease are also advised to get vaccinated.
