Those scared away from flying due to the Ebola outbreak may qualify for a refund, but only under narrow circumstances. Those who cancel could qualify for a refund if they purchased a refundable ticket.

Some may also qualify if they purchased travel insurance, but read the fine print. The insurance must cover pandemics and epidemics. Even then, you would only get a refund if two additional conditions were met:

  • an epidemic or pandemic must have been declared in the country you're flying to
  • you must have purchased the insurance and ticket prior to the health crisis being declared
