Festival on beach at Mavericks Surf Contests to be cancelled

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (KGO) -- If you want to see one of the most exciting surf contests in the country in person, you're out of luck.

The Half Moon Bay Review reports there will not be a day of festival on the beach at the Mavericks Surf Contest next time around. Organizers canceled the festival for liability reasons.

Some area bars and restaurants will offer live coverage of the event.

The surf contest window opens Jan. 1, 2015 and runs through March 31.
