MENLO PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- Finding a quality place to live is about to get a bit easier for Bay Area veterans. The VA, along with other public and private groups, unveiled the Willows housing development on Tuesday.

It's a 60-unit apartment complex located on the edge of the VA's Menlo Park campus. Officials say it's an important first step toward helping the estimated 800 homeless veterans in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

"We're looking to create permanent housing for our veterans, get them housed as a first step, and that frees them up psychologically about what are the other treatment needs that I have," spokesperson Kate Severin said.

A one-bedroom studio at the Willows will run between $550 and $750 a month. Veterans will begin moving in after the 1st of the year.

Donations of furniture and other items are needed. If you'd like to help, please email Susan Dutton with EAH Housing at susan.dutton@eahhousing.org.
