Petaluma police arrest bank robbery suspect

PETALUMA, Calif. -- Petaluma police Saturday morning arrested a man suspected of robbing a bank on Friday.



Stephen Robert Williams, 31, of Petaluma, was arrested in connection with a robbery at a Wells Fargo bank on Friday afternoon, police said.



Around 2:40 p.m. Friday, a man entered a Wells Fargo bank in the 800 block of North McDowell Boulevard where he handed to a teller a note demanding cash, police said.



The teller complied with the demand and the man fled on foot with cash, according to police.



No injuries were reported.



A police investigation indicated Williams was the suspect and he was arrested without incident while leaving his home in the 400 block of Coronado Drive around 8 a.m. Saturday.



Detectives served a search warrant at his home where they looked for evidence connecting him to the robbery, police said.



Williams was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
