Final preparations underway for Donald Trump inauguration in Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON (KGO) -- Donald Trump arrived in Washington as President-elect for the last time Thursday before taking President-elect Donald Trump the oath of office Friday. Washington, DC is getting ready for the historic event that's bringing both cheer and controversy.

Thousands are pouring in from around the globe to celebrate, and protest the inauguration of Donald Trump as the nation's 45th commander in chief.

Security for an event of is magnitude is unbelievably tight. Trucks filled with sand have been rolled out on DC streets as barriers for road closures. Today 3,500 law enforcement officers from around the country will be sworn in as special deputies by the U.S. Marshalls for duty during the inauguration as up to 400,000 protesters are expected. "We have to send a message to the Trump administration that we will not put up with the threat that he is posing," Samantha Miller with Disrupt J20 Activist Group said.

This afternoon, President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence will attend a wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery. They will then make their way to Lincoln Memorial for the Make America Great Again Welcome Celebration.

For those celebrating the president elect's victory, the night will be capped off with more than a dozen balls and galas. Not to be left out, those who oppose the president elect will be holdings balls of their own and we do expect protests as well.
