Rookie Alexander Rossi wins 100th running of the Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS -- Rookie Alexander Rossi has won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Alexander Rossi, 24, who is from California, is an American professional racing driver. He currently races in the IndyCar Series for Bryan Herta Autosport with Andretti Autosport He serves as reserve driver for Manor Racing in Formula One.

"I am just so thankfully so this," said Rossi, after the race.

The rookie coasted across the finish line on fumes to give Andretti Herta Autosport a stunning victory in the centennial race. The last rookie to win the showcase race was Helio Castroneves in 2001.
