SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A man suspected of carrying out a home invasion robbery in unincorporated San Jose that left an elderly woman with severe injuries Monday has been arrested, Santa Clara County sheriff's officials said today.

Zachary Cuen allegedly entered a home in the 200 block of North Cragmont Avenue where he severely beat an 88-year-old woman who lived at the residence by herself, according to the sheriff's office.



Deputies responded to a report of a woman beaten at the residence just before 8 p.m. and found the home had been ransacked, sheriff's officials said.

The victim, who suffered significant head and facial trauma, was transported to a hospital and placed in an intensive care unit, according to the sheriff's office. The woman was robbed of jewelry she had been wearing and her car was also stolen, sheriff's officials said.
