Sister of San Francisco woman who survived SoCal boat crash speaks out
The sister of a woman who survived a tragic boating accident that killed her boyfriend, the son of former 49ers CEO Peter Harris, says her sibling doesn't know he died in the collision.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A tragic boating accident that took the life of a San Francisco man and sent his girlfriend and two others to the hospital remains under investigation. Reid Wells, the sister of one of the victims, is now speaking publicly for the first time and talking about her sibling's tough recovery ahead.

Kelly Wells is in the hospital, unaware of what happened and unable to speak. Reid says that worst of all, Kelly doesn't know her other half did not survive. Kelly's family is now bracing to break the horrible news.

"It's going to be hard to tell her Michael's life is over but her isn't and she can move on from this because it's not going to feel like that for long time," said Reid.

Harris, the son of former San Francisco 49ers CEO Peter Harris, and Wells were dating for more than two years. Reid says Harris was the center of her sister's life.

The Wells family is grateful Kelly is alive, but are grief-stricken that her other half is now gone. Reid said Harris was "too good to be true." The couple lived in San Francisco and was planning to move in together. Harris' brothers were encouraging him to pop the question.

Wells remains in the ICU at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with her family by her bedside, preparing for the painful conversation they will have regarding Harris' fate.

"We knew that was her future, Michael was her future, so it's going to be an overhaul of everything that she knew," Reid said.

Over the holiday weekend the couple, along with three friends, was boating off Santa Catalina Island when their dinghy collided with a larger vessel early Sunday morning.

Investigators aren't sure if either of them were using lights at the time. The operator of larger boat suffered minor injuries.

The fatal collision took the life of Harris and injured Wells and two other friends. A search recovery effort is now underway for the fifth friend missing at sea.

"It's a lot of questions for us, but it's mostly painful for us not knowing what happened to the others and her boyfriend," said Reid.

The Harris family, still grieving the loss of their loved one, wrote in an online tribute that Wells is already considered a family member.

Wells is set to undergo extensive surgery on her injured jaw and is expected to make a full recovery.
